The Crime Club
was hosted by a 'librarian' who each week 'read' a new book, upon which that episode was based. Most of the mysteries were actual books published in the Doubleday Crime Club series. The librarian was played by Raymond E. Johnson ('Raymond' of 'Inner Sanctum' fame, pictured) and Barry Thompson.

Each show began with a phone inquiry regarding a specific book, followed shortly by the librarian offering the listener a seat in an easy chair while he began reading the requested book, which then segued into the drama itself.

Excellent plots and acting along with crisp writing helped the show enjoy a successful albeit brief run on the Mutual Broadcasting System from December 1946 until October 1947.
